SRINAGAR: In a strategic move to enhance security for high-risk individuals, the Jammu and Kashmir Police has launched a dedicated safety mobile app for protected persons in Baramulla district.

The application is designed to deliver real-time alerts and connect users directly with control rooms and quick-response teams in instances of terrorist threats, suspicious behaviour, or security emergencies.

According to officials, the app is available exclusively to individuals under government protection or occupying sensitive positions. The key features include one-touch help, automatic location tracking, and direct voice link with district security command.

Protected individuals who have begun using the app describe it as a "digital shield" that gives them an immediate lifeline without depending solely on escorts. The police are also conducting awareness workshops to help users understand the features and response protocols.

A senior police official noted: "Previously, when alerts came through traditional channels, valuable time was lost. This app seeks to eliminate that delay".

The timing of the rollout is critical; north Kashmir has witnessed heightened threat perceptions and targeted attacks in recent months. For instance, terrorists shot two migrant workers in Budgam last November, highlighting the vulnerability of civilians in volatile areas.

Security analysts say the app reflects a broader shift in policing strategy, using technology to proactively monitor potential threats rather than wait for incidents to occur. Future upgrades plan to incorporate AI-driven pattern detection to flag repeated suspicious movements near protected persons.

This launch comes as part of the J&K Police's wider campaign to integrate technology with frontline security efforts, particularly in border-adjacent and insurgency-sensitive zones. The aim is to foster faster reaction times, increase civilian trust in the security apparatus, and reduce the risk of attacks on protected persons
