Manipur: In a display of solidarity, the Kuki and Nepali (Gorkha) civil society organisations (CSOs) in Sadar Hills, Kangpokpi District, came together today at Lhangkichoi Village for a historic get-together aimed at strengthening ties and reaffirming their commitment to peace, coexistence, and mutual respect.

The event, organized by the Sadar Hills Chiefs’ Association (SAHILCA), was held under the theme “Get-Together of Kuki–Nepali (Gorkha) CSO Leaders” at Lhangkichoi Village in Kangpokpi District. The event carried profound significance, serving as both a symbolic and practical effort to preserve and promote the age-old friendship shared between the Kukis and the Nepali (Gorkhas).

Speakers at the event recalled the longstanding history of cooperation and cordial relations between the two communities in Sadar Hills, where they have lived together harmoniously for generations. They underscored that peace, understanding, and brotherhood had always been the cornerstone of Kuki–Nepali relations and must continue to remain so even during turbulent times.

Leaders from both sides expressed a collective resolve to prevent any external forces from sowing seeds of discord and pledged to work hand in hand in safeguarding the peace and stability of Kangpokpi District. They also emphasized the need to foster understanding among the younger generation so that the legacy of unity can be passed down unbroken.

Community elders, women leaders, and youth representatives present at the gathering lent further weight to the occasion. They stressed that grassroots-level initiatives like this are essential to heal divisions, rebuild trust, and ensure that communities continue to thrive together despite external challenges.

The meeting was not merely ceremonial but also forward-looking, as participants discussed ways to collaborate on social, cultural, and developmental initiatives for the welfare of all communities residing in Sadar Hills.

The symbolic handshake between Kuki and Nepali CSO leaders was more than a gesture it was a reaffirmation of their shared destiny in Kangpokpi and a promise to protect their common heritage of peaceful coexistence.

As one elder from the Nepali (Gorkha) community at the event remarked, “Our forefathers lived side by side, shared their joys and sorrows, and supported each other in times of hardship. It is our duty to ensure that their legacy is not forgotten, but strengthened for the generations to come.”

He also thanked SAHILCA for the get-together initiative while proposing to establish a coordinating committee to further strengthen the bonds and understanding between the two communities.

Another Nepali (Gorkha) leader proposed that the Nepali (Gorkha) community shall host another such get-together initiative next time, bringing together other community leaders so as to ensure a more cordial relationship and understanding.

The spirit of Lhangkichoi’s get-together may well mark a turning point in how the two communities in Sadar Hills approach reconciliation, peaceful coexistence, understanding, and the reaffirmation of time-honoured bonds.

To cap the memorable occasion, a huge and grand feast was also organised, where members of both communities shared meals together in a display of unity and brotherhood.
