Srinagar: A devastating fire broke out late Monday night in the Narparistan area of Fatekadal, Srinagar, reducing several residential houses to rubble and leaving dozens of families homeless.

The fire, which erupted under unknown circumstances, quickly spread through the densely packed locality. Fire and Emergency Services were immediately alerted, with fire tenders rushed to the scene from Babdem and the department’s central headquarters. However, due to the severity of the blaze, additional reinforcements were called in from nearby fire stations including MR Gunj, Habakadal, Safakadal, and Rainawari.

Officials confirmed that at least six residential structures were severely damaged in the incident. Firefighters had a tough time battling the flames due to the narrow lanes and the congested layout of the area. Despite the difficult conditions, teams managed to prevent the fire from spreading further.

Eyewitnesses reported scenes of panic as residents scrambled to evacuate their homes, trying to save essential belongings. Local residents, along with Jammu and Kashmir Police personnel, played a significant role in assisting the firefighting teams, helping to evacuate families and prevent further loss.

Although no casualties were immediately reported, the fire has caused extensive damage to property, with dozens of families losing their homes overnight. Many are now left without shelter and are being temporarily housed by neighbors and relatives.

Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the fire. Meanwhile, officials from the administration have visited the affected area to assess the extent of the damage and provide necessary relief to the victims.

This incident highlights the vulnerability of congested residential areas in Srinagar, where lack of access and outdated infrastructure often hamper emergency response efforts.
