Manipur: A meeting on a community understanding programme between the Thadou Inpi Manipur and COCOMI, AMUCO, FOCS, Ima groups, student leaders and Arambai Tenggol has been undergoing on Wenesday, August 8.
The initiative, titled “The Road to Peace in Manipur”, aimed at fostering community understanding and resolving long-standing ethnic misunderstandings.
As part of the discussion, the Thadou Inpi has intended to make a strong distinction that the Thadou community is not part of the “Kuki” group. The leaders emphasized that the Thadou tribe is an indigenous community of Manipur with its own distinct cultural and historical roots.
One of the key agendas for the meeting has been the asseration of certain Thadou groups to assert itself out of the Kuki groups.
Meitei representatives, including those from COCOMI and allied groups, have participated the dialogue, which have paved the way of communication for the first time ever since the conflict started in Manpiur.
Also present are leading student organisations including Democratic Students’ Alliance of Manipur (DESAM), Kangleipak Students’ Association (KSA), Students’ Union of Kangleipak (SUK), and Apunba Ireipakki Maheiroi Sinpanglup (AIMS) among others.
The primary agenda of the meeting is believed to center on promoting communal harmony and exploring pathways to restore lasting peace in the conflict-hit state.
