To revive and preserve the cultural identity of the Kuki-Zo tribal Christian community

To revive and preserve the cultural identity of the Kuki-Zo tribal Christian community, a special Indeginous Worship event was held under theme "Incarnation of Faith in Culture" at Centre Church Salem Village, Saparmeina under KBC No.4 in Kangpokpi District.
The programme emphasised that Christianity does not demand cultural abandonment, nor does it require believers to detach themselves from their indigenous roots. Instead, faith can be fully expressed through native traditions, melodies, instruments, and customs. Organisers stressed that faith becomes deeper and more meaningful when it is grounded in one’s own cultural identity.
The event featured age-old cultural dances, rituals, and customs, showcasing the richness of Kuki indigenous life. Traditional musical instruments—from percussion to wind instruments—were played to remind the young of the deep musical heritage of their forefathers.
Elders, cultural custodians, and church leaders presented various forms of indigenous worship to demonstrate that cultural expression and Christian devotion can coexist harmoniously.
The organisers expressed concern that the younger generation is rapidly losing touch with their cultural identity, influenced by globalisation and modern trends. By hosting this Indigenous Worship, the church aims to inspire children and youth to embrace, practice, and carry forward the cultural legacy left by their ancestors.
The programme was led by Rev. Onthang Haokip, Church Pastor, and hosted by Thanglen Kipgen, Deacon. Pastor Paogoumang Chongloi delivered the sermon, urging the congregation to honour God through their own cultural expressions, rather than relying solely on borrowed or foreign forms.
The event concluded with a renewed commitment from the community to preserve their culture, custom, and tradition, ensuring that indigenous identity remains alive within Christian worship.
