Security forces arrested PREPAK and PLA insurgents, seized illegal liquor, and neutralised an IED in Manipur amid a push for peace.

The security operations done by the security forces along with the Manipur police are part of the bigger agenda to bring peace and normalcy in the state.
Manipur: Manipur Police and security forces arrested several active insurgent cadres involved in extortion activities across the state on Wednesday, July 30. An active cadre of PREPAK (Pro), identified as Ningombam Sanatomba Meitei (42), alias Nanao alias Gomeiba, a resident of Taothong Khunou in Imphal West district, was arrested from the vicinity of his residence. Police seized one mobile handset with two SIM cards and an Aadhaar card from his possession. He was reportedly engaged in extorting money from the general public.
In another operation, security forces conducting frisking and checking at Ngaikhong Khunou checkpoint under Bishnupur Police Station arrested an active RPF/PLA cadre, Konjengbam Jiten Singh (38), and his associate Khongbantabam Priyobarta Meitei alias Tomba alias Abung (37). Both are residents of Kwakeithel Konjeng Leikai under Singjamei Police Station, Imphal West. The duo was involved in extortion from contractors, businessmen, and the general public in the Imphal and Bishnupur areas. Security personnel recovered a silver-coloured Maruti 800 car (ML-04B-0783) and two mobile phones from their possession.
Separately, police arrested Leimapokpam Onil Singh (39) of Thongjao Charik under Waikhong Police Station, Kakching district, and seized 101 litres of DIC liquor from him. The seized liquor was handed over to the Sugnu Excise Department for further legal action.

Earlier this week, Union Home Minister Amit Shah moved a statutory resolution in Parliament to extend President's Rule till February 2026, a year before the Manipur Assembly election. The current Legislative Assembly has been suspended but not dissolved. Earlier, the Lok Sabha has given its approval to the statutory resolution regarding the extension of President’s rule in Manipur for a further period of six month with effect from 13th of August 2025. Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai moved the resolution seeking approval of the House for the extension of President’s rule which was imposed in Manipur on 13th February 2025.
Meanwhile, security forces on July 29 neutralised an improvised explosive device (IED) discovered at Sunrise Ground, near the Tamil Sangam area in Moreh under the jurisdiction of Moreh Police Station, Tengnoupal district in Manipur
Further, authorities ensured the movement of 130 vehicles carrying essential commodities along NH-37 under strict security cover. A total of 111 checkpoints were set up across various hill and valley districts, although no detentions were reported during the checks. Security convoys have been deployed along vulnerable and sensitive stretches to guarantee the safe and free movement of vehicles transporting essential goods.
