Jammu: In a major success against cross-border smuggling, Jammu and Kashmir Police and the Border Security Force (BSF) busted an interstate narcotics syndicate in Kathua, which was being operated by Pakistan-based handlers using drones to drop drug consignments across the border.

Officials said four members of the module were arrested three from Punjab and one from Jammu who were part of a Pakistan-backed network involved in receiving and distributing narcotics.

The breakthrough came during a joint operation launched in the Hiranagar sector following specific intelligence inputs. During the operation, consignments of heroin and opium worth crores of rupees were recovered, dealing a major blow to the cross-border drug trade.

According to police, the Pakistani handlers were operating drones to drop narcotics consignments in border areas of Kathua, where local conduits would collect them and further push them into different states through an interstate network.

A case under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) has been registered at Hiranagar Police Station, and further investigations are underway to identify other members of the syndicate and trace the financial channels involved in the trade.
Officials said the busting of the syndicate highlights Pakistan’s continued attempts to push drugs into India as part of a “narco-terror” design aimed at funding terrorism and destabilizing the region.
