Punjab Police busts Jaish-e-Mohammad-linked terror module; three from J&K arrested in Mohali cab driver’s abduction and killing.
Punjab: In a major breakthrough, the Punjab Police on Monday announced the busting of a terror module linked to Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) with the arrest of three individuals from Jammu and Kashmir, accused in the abduction and killing of a cab driver from Nayagaon, Mohali.
The case was registered after Anil Kumar’s cab was forcibly snatched by unidentified assailants in Kharar. The driver’s sudden disappearance and the switching off of his mobile phones raised alarm, prompting the Sas Nagar Police to launch a swift investigation. Multiple teams were mobilized, and with precise action, all three accused were apprehended.
Police said the snatched vehicle and a .32 bore pistol used in the crime have been recovered. During interrogation, the accused confessed to shooting Kumar after an altercation and disposing of his body in the Mohali area. Intensive search operations are currently underway to trace the mortal remains.
Among those arrested, Sahil Bashir has a chequered past. He is wanted in a UAPA and Arms Act case registered in Handwara, J\&K, while his brother Aijaz Ahmad had earlier been arrested with a cache of weapons and material linked to JeM. Both have been identified as Over Ground Workers (OGWs) of the Pakistan-based terror outfit.
A Punjab Police spokesperson said, “Investigations are on to dismantle the entire network and ensure no anti-national elements find ground in Punjab.”
