NEW DELHI: Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Friday launched a fresh attack on the BJP-led government, accusing it of being a “paper chor” amid rising outrage over examination leaks in Uttarakhand.
In a post on X in Hindi, the Congress MP from Uttar Pradesh's Rae Bareli said, "Today, BJP's other name is - Paper Thief."
The former Congress chief asserted that the repeated paper leaks happening across the country have "ruined the lives and dreams of millions of hardworking youth".
"The UKSSSC paper leak in Uttarakhand is its latest example. Lakhs of youth toiled day and night, but BJP has dashed all their hard work through theft," he alleged.
Rahul Gandhi said that "we have been continuously demanding that a strong and transparent system be created to stop paper leaks".
"But the Modi government is turning a blind eye to this - because they are not concerned about youth unemployment, but about their own power," he said taking a jibe at the government.
He also highlighted that "unemployment is today's biggest problem in the country, and it is directly linked to vote theft".
"The paper thieves know - even if the youth don't get jobs, they will remain in power by stealing votes in elections. The youth are on the streets and chanting the slogan - 'Paper Thief, Leave the Throne," he said.
"This is not just a fight for the youth's jobs; this is a fight for justice and democracy. I stand firmly with every student and youth in this fight for justice," Rahul Gandhi added.
He also shared a video with his post that showed protesting students from Uttarakhand over the paper leak.
His remarks came after three alleged pages of the UKSSSC question paper had surfaced online after an exam in Haridwar, prompting outrage among aspirants.
Following the paper leak, police arrested Khalid Malik, who allegedly sneaked in a mobile phone hidden in his socks, clicked pictures of the paper in a washroom and circulated them.
