Haryana: Rajya Sabha MP Kartikeya Sharma attended the Kanya Pujan ceremony as the chief guest at the historic Maa Jayanti Devi Temple in Jind, Haryana. On the occasion, 11,000 girls and mothers were ceremonially worshipped, honoured, and served food as part of the programme.
Addressing the gathering, Kartikeya Sharma said that the Maa Jayanti Devi Temple is not only a centre of faith but also an important site connected with India’s ancient traditions and history. He stated that, according to belief, the Pandavas had sought the blessings of Maa Jayanti Devi at this very pilgrimage site during the Mahabharata period, and the present-day Kanya Pujan continues that long-standing tradition.
He emphasised that Kanya Pujan is an integral part of Sanatan tradition, where daughters are regarded as symbols of strength and dignity.
He described the ceremony as a virtuous act rooted in social harmony and cultural values.
On this occasion, MP Kartikeya Sharma announced a contribution of Rs 11 lakh for the construction of a shed within the Maa Jayanti Devi Temple premises, aimed at improving facilities for devotees, particularly during large gatherings.
Referring to the Namo Shakti Rath initiative, he said that free breast cancer screening for women will be organised at the temple premises in the near future, with the objective of linking health awareness with social and religious platforms.
Responding to questions from journalists during the programme, the MP said that the Union Budget to be presented on 1 February is significant, and he expressed hope that it will be peoplecentric, benefiting the middle class, economically weaker sections, and families dependent on agriculture.
On a question related to education, he clarified that matters concerning the UGC are currently under consideration by the Hon’ble Supreme Court, and therefore it would not be appropriate to comment on the issue at this stage.
Replying to a question on rural employment, he said that measures aimed at expanding employment opportunities help strengthen the rural economy.
Concluding the programme, Kartikeya Sharma said that preserving cultural traditions while advancing social concerns is essential for holistic development.
