New Delhi: Everything is not the same between RSS and BJP. We can say that dialogue is going on and soon everything will be the same. The gist of RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat’s question-answer program has come out to be something like this. RSS chief Bhagwat stayed in Delhi for four consecutive days but he did not meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi. If he met, it was with Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan and that too for 45 minutes. After this meeting, Chauhan termed all the speculations of him becoming the national president as wrong.
If there had been a meeting between Prime Minister Modi and Bhagwat, then it would have been understood that BJP would get a national president soon. But nothing like this happened. Prime Minister Modi had met Bhagwat at the Sangh Headquarters at the end of March. After becoming the Prime Minister, this was the first time he had visited the Nagpur Sangh Headquarters. After this meeting, on 29 April, Sangh chief Bhagwat had reached PM Modi’s home to meet him. It was told about this meeting that there was a discussion on Pahalgam attack and Pakistan. In both these meetings, nothing came up about the selection of the national president. Only a period of speculations took place. Meaning, there was no softening of the bitterness seen from either side during the general elections 2024. The decision of the president could not have been taken without the consent of both the leaders.
But in the month of August, the ice on both sides has melted. Prime Minister Modi started it. On August 15, from the ramparts of the Red Fort, Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised the Sangh for the first time. Although the opposition raised questions, PM Modi gave a big message. After this, it was expected that there would be a dialogue between the two and the pending matters would be resolved soon. There was no talk of dialogue, but whatever Sangh chief Bhagwat said about the differences and the election of the president indicated that some ice has melted. On the question of differences between BJP and Sangh, Bhagwat admitted that there may be differences of opinion on some issues. But this is not a quarrel. There is no difference of opinion between the two. As far as the decision of the national president is concerned, BJP has to decide on its own. It will decide at its own time.
Bhagwat does not speak first, when he speaks it has its own meaning. He denied the difference of opinion but accepted that there are differences of opinion on the issues. The question is whether the views are not matching in the matter of the president. According to the constitution of BJP, the tenure of the national president is three years. But this is not happening in BJP. JP Nadda’s tenure ended in January 2023. But he is being given continuous extensions. Due to this, he has been the president for five consecutive years. In January 2026, he will complete 6 years. Meaning equal to two tenures. Not only this, the principle of one person one post is also being ignored.
Due to the election of the national president, the decision of Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, Gujarat and Punjab is yet to be taken. Now the question is whether the exercise of the election of the national president will be able to start after Bhagwat’s Delhi visit. Because Pitru Paksha is starting from September 7, which will continue till September 20. BJP usually avoids decision in Pitru Paksha. Bihar in October — the election code of conduct will be imposed. BJP is saying that a new national president will be found before the Bihar elections. But the question is whether the Sangh will give its consent. Because there still seem to be some complications. What that complication is will be known only after the president’s name is announced. Because it is a matter of one’s own choice.
