Jammu: Days after two back-to-back successes arresting two Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists in Mandi area and foiling an infiltration attempt along the Line of Control (LoC) in Balakot sector of Poonch security forces have intensified search operations across the district, officials said on Tuesday.

The joint cordon and search operation by the Special Operations Group (SOG) of J&K Police and the CRPF was launched in several villages, including Soyian Katha, Banjola forest, Jallian-Azamabad, Khanetar Mohalla, Kalsan and Dupriana, following inputs about movement of suspected persons.

Officials said SOG personnel, along with troops of the Rashtriya Rifles, also conducted extensive searches on Monday at Kotli Bawin Ghali in Manjakote, Behra Kasab and Topa, besides Manglaanu Mankote in Mendhar. However, no arrests were made during the day-long exercise.

The heightened operations come in the backdrop of the Army foiling an infiltration bid in Balakot area of Mendhar on Monday, when a group of terrorists tried to sneak across the LoC but were forced to retreat after being engaged by alert troops.

Security agencies said the two recent developments the arrests of Lashkar operatives and the foiling of infiltration highlight continued attempts from across the border to disturb peace in the region. Forces have since stepped up vigil along infiltration routes and intensified combing operations in forested and border belt areas of Poonch.
