GULMARG: As the New Year begins, Kashmir is experiencing a remarkable revival in tourism, with thousands of tourists thronging its snow-covered destinations. Gulmarg, the jewel of Kashmir’s winter tourism, has turned into a picture-perfect winter wonderland, blanketed in fresh snow, and bustling with visitors from across India and abroad.

The recent spell of snowfall has transformed the region’s landscape, attracting nature lovers, honeymooners, families, and adventure seekers alike. Gulmarg’s world-renowned Gondola ride, one of the highest in the world, is witnessing long queues daily, as tourists flock to experience its breathtaking ascent through snow-laden pine forests and panoramic views of the Pir Panjal range.

Our team on the ground captured vibrant scenes of celebration and joy. Tourists engaged in snowball fights, skiing, snowboarding, and sledging. Speaking to us, many visitors called Kashmir “a heaven on earth” and praised the arrangements made by the Tourism Department, especially the hospitality, cleanliness, and snow clearance efforts.

“Security is good, the atmosphere is peaceful, and locals are very welcoming,” said one tourist from Maharashtra. Another visitor from Gujarat added, “This is our first time here and it already feels magical”.

Hotels in Gulmarg and surrounding areas have reported full occupancy over the New Year weekend, and local markets are thriving, benefiting from the booming tourist activity. Ponywalas, ski instructors, shopkeepers, and hoteliers are optimistic about the season ahead.

NewsX also spoke exclusively to J&K Director of Tourism, Syed Qamar Sajjad, who shared that reviving tourism after the Pahalgam attack was extremely challenging. “We were deeply hurt by the incident, but we didn’t give up. Our teams worked round the clock to bring back tourist confidence,” he said. “We welcome every tourist and assure them complete safety. The government is fully supporting our efforts to revive Kashmir’s tourism economy”.

With more snowfall predicted in the coming days, Kashmir is set for a promising winter season ahead. The Valley, wrapped in white, is once again inviting the world to witness its unmatched charm and resilience.
