SRINAGAR: In a spirited demonstration of patriotism and solidarity, Srinagar Police organized a citywide Run for Unity across multiple jurisdictions to commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, widely honoured as the “Iron Man of India.”

The run spanned localities under police stations including Lalbazar, R.M. Bagh, Safakadal, Karan Nagar, Chanapora, Maisuma, Rajbagh, Khanyar, and Sadder. The event was intended not only as a tribute to Patel’s role in India’s integration, but also to foster community spirit, civic responsibility and national harmony.

Hundreds of students, teachers, civil society members and local residents participated with enthusiasm. Many carried banners, placards and national flags as they traversed predefined routes in their neighbourhoods. Police officials, educational heads, and community leaders flagged off the runs and mingled with participants to encourage them.

Several schools and colleges partnered with police for the initiative, highlighting the role of educational institutions in inculcating values of citizenship, discipline, and unity among youth.

At the conclusion, organizers distributed participation certificates, refreshments, and tokens of appreciation. Participants expressed gratitude, saying the event strengthened connections between law enforcement and the public, and revived feelings of collective pride.

The “Run for Unity” is part of a series of outreach events by Srinagar Police designed to enhance civic engagement, build public trust, and raise awareness of national icons and their legacies. The success of this event underscores growing collaboration between security agencies and the citizenry in promoting peace and unity across the Valley.

With high turnout and positive feedback from participants, the run stood as a fitting homage to Sardar Patel and reaffirmed the ideals of national integration and social harmony.
