SRINAGAR: Security forces on Wednesday arrested a suspect in possession of arms and ammunition at Hari Parigam village in South Kashmir’s Awantipora.
According to a senior police officer, a joint team of Police, Army, and CRPF had set up a checkpoint in the area. During routine checking, a man was found behaving suspiciously and was taken into custody.
A search led to the recovery of a pistol, a magazine, and nine rounds of 9mm ammunition. The accused has been identified as Sakib Reyaz Ganie, son of Reyaz Ahmad Ganie, a resident of Chaki-i-Cholan, Shopian.
Sources revealed that Sakib is also a prime suspect in the grenade attack on the CRPF camp in Lariyar and had been missing since May 11, 2025.
Police have registered a case, and further investigation is underway.
Meanwhile, in separate operations across Jammu and Kashmir, security forces continue to tighten their grip on terror networks. The Jammu and Kashmir Police’s State Investigation Agency (SIA) recently apprehended an over-ground worker associated with the banned Hizbul Mujahideen outfit.
In another operation, three OGWs were arrested in Handwara with arms and ammunition, while in Tral, two terror associates were detained with explosive substances, hand grenades, and AK-47 rounds.
These developments highlight the relentless efforts by security agencies to dismantle militant infrastructure and maintain peace in the region.
