KUPWARA/RAJOURI, J&K: Pakistani forces violated the ceasefire along the Line of Control (LoC) in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Friday, officials said, adding that there was no loss of life or damage to property. In a separate counter-infiltration operation, security forces recovered arms and supplies in Rajouri district after thwarting an infiltration attempt.
According to officials, the ceasefire violation occurred around noon at Toori Mar Gali in the Nowgam sector of Jammu and Kashmir when posts from across the border in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir opened small arms fire on Indian forward positions. Army troops responded in a calibrated and defensive manner, securing posts while preventing escalation. The exchange remained brief and limited in intensity, ceasing without casualties or infrastructure damage on the Indian side.
The Nowgam sector, located close to the LoC, is considered operationally sensitive due to rugged terrain, dense forest cover and a history of cross-border movement. Security forces maintain layered surveillance in the area, including forward observation posts, area patrols and technical monitoring systems to track infiltration routes. The incident comes amid continuing efforts by India and Pakistan to uphold the February 2021 understanding to strictly observe the ceasefire along the LoC.
Meanwhile, in Rajouri district, a search operation was launched in the Naika-Tibba area of the Sunderbani sector following a foiled infiltration bid a day earlier. Troops detected suspicious movement near a forward area and engaged infiltrators, forcing them to retreat across difficult terrain.
During subsequent searches, security personnel found blood-stained tracks, indicating that the infiltrators may have been injured. The operation resulted in the recovery of one AK-47 rifle, two magazines with ammunition, three rucksacks, blankets, rations and clothing, suggesting preparations for extended movement in the forest belt.
The operation was conducted by the Crossed Swords Division under the White Knight Corps. Officials said area domination patrols, cordon-and-search operations and enhanced surveillance remain in place to deter further infiltration attempts. Reinforcement of forward deployment and coordination among ground units continue as part of the counter-infiltration grid along the LoC.
Security agencies stated that vigilance levels remain elevated across forward sectors, with forces maintaining readiness to respond to ceasefire violations and cross-border infiltration attempts.
