Premier League clubs Aston Villa and Leeds United have strengthened their squads ahead of the 2026-27 season, signing two promising talents who created a buzz during the FIFA World Cup 2026. Aston Villa secured the services of attacking midfielder Johan Manzambi following his standout performance for Switzerland, while Leeds United signed Bosnia and Herzegovina defender Tarik Muharemovic after a statement season at Sassuolo. Both clubs will hope their new recruits can make an immediate impact as they gear up for the 2026-27 Premier League season.
Johan Manzambi Completes Aston Villa Move
Aston Villa have added one of the breakout stars of the FIFA World Cup 2026 to their ranks by signing Johan Manzambi from Bundesliga side Freiburg. The Swiss international enjoyed a memorable tournament, scoring three goals and registering two assists as Switzerland finished in the World Cup quarter-finals for the first time in more than seven decades before falling to Argentina.
Manzambi joined Freiburg’s academy in 2023 and progressed rapidly to the senior setup the following year. During his time in Germany, he made 58 appearances and struck nine goals, establishing himself as one of the club’s most exciting youngsters.
The 20-year-old midfielder also played a significant role in Freiburg’s run to the Europa League final, where they finished runners-up to Aston Villa. The Premier League side confirmed that Manzambi will wear the No. 44 shirt, the same number he had sported at his previous club.
Villa will kick off their Premier League campaign with an away fixture against Brighton on August 23.
Tarik Muharemovic Strengthens Leeds United Defence
Leeds United have bolstered their backline with the signing of Bosnia and Herzegovina international Tarik Muharemovic from Serie A outfit Sassuolo on a five-year deal.
The 23-year-old centre-back impressed throughout the 2025-26 season as Sassuolo secured an 11th-place finish in Italy’s top division. His consistent performances earned him a place in Bosnia and Herzegovina’s FIFA World Cup 2026 squad.
Speaking after completing the move, Muharemovic expressed his commitment to the Yorkshire club, saying: “I will give everything for this club. I will give everything, every game. I just want to win.”
Muharemovic becomes Leeds United’s second permanent signing of the summer following the arrival of Harry Wilson. The newly promoted side open their Premier League window away to Nottingham Forest on August 22.
