Tragedy in Ludhiana: Two brothers electrocuted while protecting their flooded home amid relentless Punjab rains
Chandigarh: In a tragic incident, two brothers lost their lives after being electrocuted in Sangowal village of Ludhiana district on Sunday.
The victims, Tejwant Singh (20) and Manjot Singh (19), died on the spot while descending a rainwater-soaked staircase after trying to cover the terrace of their flooded house with a tarpaulin sheet.
Local MLA Jiwan Singh Sangowal said the family was left shattered by the deaths. He noted that the roof of the house had been leaking due to continuous rainfall. The brothers’ father, a daily wage MNREGA worker, and their mother, who works as a domestic help, are now left with only their daughter.
Calling the tragedy heart-wrenching, the MLA assured that villagers would extend all possible support to the family and help conduct the bhog ceremony of the deceased.
The incident comes amid relentless rainfall and flooding in Punjab, which has affected more than ten districts. At least 30 people have lost their lives so far in flood and monsoon-related incidents across the state.
