KUPWARA: In a significant success for security forces, an infiltration attempt along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Keran sector of North Kashmir’s Kupwara district was foiled early Sunday morning, resulting in the killing of two terrorists.

According to defence officials, alert troops deployed along the LoC noticed suspicious movement of armed infiltrators attempting to cross into Indian territory under the cover of darkness and thick vegetation.

“Upon detection, the troops challenged the infiltrators, who opened fire. In the retaliatory action, two terrorists were neutralised,” an Army official said, adding that the operation was carried out under strict surveillance and coordinated response by ground troops.

The encounter site was thoroughly searched after first light, and the bodies of the slain terrorists were recovered along with a cache of arms, ammunition, and warlike stores. This included AK-47 rifles, grenades, communication devices, and other logistical support items, indicating they were heavily armed and likely part of a larger infiltration module.

The operation lasted several hours and was backed by technical surveillance and night vision equipment. Reinforcements were rushed to plug any possible escape routes, and the entire area remains under close watch to ensure no further attempts are made.

Security forces suspect the terrorists belonged to a Pakistan-based group, attempting to sneak in before the mountain passes become inaccessible due to snowfall.

This incident comes amid heightened alert along the LoC ahead of winter. Inspector General of BSF, Kashmir Frontier, Ashok Yadav had recently stated that security forces are maintaining maximum vigilance to prevent such infiltrations, especially before the closure of high-altitude routes.

Search operations are ongoing in the surrounding areas.
