PM Modi at union cabinet
NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi may take certain major decisions at the Centre post the second phase of the Budget Session, which begins on Monday, by replacing some ministers. This will be followed directly by the Monsoon Session in July. Sources say that all the changes will be made before then. Meanwhile, the BJP’s new executive committee will be formed. Decisions will also be made regarding the states where elections are due next year, for instance in Uttar Pradesh, where some new faces will have to be adjusted in the Yogi government. Decisions regarding Punjab, Uttarakhand, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, and Goa will also be made. But the most surprising decisions are likely to be made at the Centre.
Sources say that the PM is unhappy with the functioning of certain ministers. Also the mistakes made by the floor managers in Parliament gave Congress an opportunity to attack the BJP in the first half of the Budget Session. Therefore, new floor managers can be seen in the Monsoon Session. Sources say that there is also unhappiness with the excessive rhetoric on the US trade deal.
Prime Minister Modi's third term will complete two years in June. At the beginning of his third term, the Prime Minister did not alter his team significantly. He repeated many faces that were in government during the previous term. So some major changes may happen now.
In the last two years, the BJP has achieved spectacular victories in many states including Bihar, but the challenges in Delhi have increased. The opposition has been aggressive, resulting in too many disruptions in Parliament. The BJP-O plans to look into this.
The coming year is important because the Presidential election will be held, as well as important state elections. Elections in Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat are more important for the BJP. With Punjab too going to the polls, there is speculation that the BJP may revive its ties with the Akali Dal. Elections will also be held in Goa, Manipur and Uttarakhand.
