After day-long deliberations, VCK on Saturday announced unconditional support to Vijay. Speaking to the media, VCK chief Thol Thirumavalavan said, “We took long term vision into account, decided to extend unconditional support to TVK.” He also said that the political ‘crisis’ in the state should not become cause for implementing President’s rule.

Even IUML, which won two seats in the state, gave the letter of unconditional support to TVK.

With this, TVK now has the support of Congress, CPI, CPI(M) and VCK, taking its tally to 119, crossing the majority mark of 118.

Vijay soon after getting the letter of support from VCK went to Lok Bhavan to meet the Governor.

The TVK emerged as single largest party in Tamil Nadu by winning 108 seats, nine seats short of majority. Congress was first to give support to Vijay. Following Congress’ announcement to support the TVK, the DMK described the grand old party as backstabbers. In the newly elected MLAs meeting, the DMK passed four resolutions including one condemning the Congress for ditching DMK.

In another twist, on Friday night, AMMK chief TTV Dhinakaran denied that his party has issued letter of support to Vijay-led TVK and accused it of forging letter of support submitted to the Governor.

TVK denied the accusations and accused the TTV of spreading false news.

CPI, CPIM also extended unconditional support to TVK on Friday. After he takes oath, Vijay will become the first leader outside the DMK and AIADMK formations to head the Tamil Nadu government since 1967. TVK won 108 seats, with Vijay himself winning from seats of Perambore and Trichy East. He will have to resign from one seat. The DMK won 58, AIADMK 47 seats.
