Chandigarh: In a swift response to a viral video circulating on social media, the Punjab government has taken disciplinary action against suspended Naib Tehsildar Jasvir Kaur, who was allegedly seen accepting money from a member of the public in Fatehgarh Sahib. The state government has not only confirmed the authenticity of the video but also deemed the act serious enough to trigger urgent administrative measures.

The video, which has drawn public outrage, shows Jasvir Kaur receiving what appears to be bribe money while in conversation with a citizen. Though Jasvir Kaur had already been under suspension, the footage has reignited concerns about corruption within revenue offices, especially at the field level.

Taking cognizance, the Punjab Department of Revenue, Rehabilitation, and Disaster Management has immediately ordered the stoppage of her subsistence allowance—a financial support given to suspended officials under service rules. According to the government’s order issued on July 19, the allowance has been withdrawn under Rule 7(2) of the Punjab Civil Services Volume-1, Part-1. This decision reflects a rare instance of monetary action against a suspended official based on video evidence.

Further, the department has formally directed the Deputy Commissioner of Fatehgarh Sahib to initiate a detailed investigation into the matter. The DC has been asked to urgently submit a report after verifying all facts and assessing the video’s context. The instructions also mention that the official be dealt with “strictly and with transparency,” reinforcing the state’s stated zero-tolerance stance toward corruption.

The principal communication, signed by A.P.S. Virk, Additional Secretary (Revenue), emphasizes that such conduct from suspended officers not only erodes public trust but also warrants exemplary administrative action. The directive has been circulated to key offices including the Chief Secretary of Punjab, the Financial Commissioner Revenue, and the Vigilance Bureau.

Officials have been advised to treat the matter with utmost priority, and sources indicate that further legal action may be considered depending on the findings of the DC’s report.

This development comes amid the Mann government’s larger push for clean governance. However, critics argue that corruption at the grassroots level remains unchecked unless structural reforms are implemented alongside punitive measures.

The video continues to trend on social media platforms with citizens demanding harsher punishments and greater transparency in revenue department operations.
