Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory Disaster Management Authority (JKUTDMA) has issued a high alert for the next 56 hours, forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall across multiple districts of the region.

According to the advisory, Anantnag, Kulgam, parts of Central and North Kashmir, Doda, Jammu, Kathua, Kishtwar, Poonch, Rajouri, Ramban, Reasi, Samba, and Udhampur are expected to receive intense rainfall.

Authorities have warned of the possibility of cloudbursts, flash floods, and landslides, especially in hilly terrains and flood-prone zones.

Recent Incidents:

– Kishtwar Cloudburst (August 14): At least 67 people lost their lives and several others remain missing after a massive cloudburst hit Chasoti village in Kishtwar. Flash floods swept away houses, vehicles, and livestock. Rescue operations are still underway by Army, NDRF, SDRF, and local administration.

– Kathua Flash Floods (August 17): Four people were killed and six injured after a cloudburst triggered sudden flooding in Kathua district during the night hours. The flash floods damaged several homes and roads.

These back-to-back weather-related disasters have raised serious concerns, prompting emergency services to stay on high alert.

Public Advisory:

– Residents are urged to remain vigilant, avoid venturing near water bodies, and stay indoors unless necessary.

– Dial 112 for any emergency.

– Authorities are closely monitoring vulnerable zones and have mobilized disaster response teams across all districts.

The administration has appealed to the public to cooperate fully and follow advisories issued through official channels.
