Weather Today (24 January): A look at the weather in different parts of India on the 24th of January indicates that while parts of the north and south are witnessing rain and thunder, the western part, as well as the coast, are enjoying dry winters.
Delhis NCR is going through inclement weather at this point in time and light to heavy rain with thunderstorms can be expected and the temperatures are hovering around 14°C, and the humidity persists above 90%. Visibility has come down below 1 km and the breezes are fairly brisk at about 20 km/h. A yellow alert remains in effect.
At present, Chennai is under a yellow alert as a precaution against possible thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and the skies are mostly overcast, and the temperature levels are expected to vary between 22 and 28 degrees Celsius. There are likely to be spells of heavy rain, especially towards the end of the day.
Mumbai experiences a dry and sunny spell with clear skies and the relative humidity is between 60-70% and the coastal winds are steady. This means the skies are clear and calm in Mumbai, giving an impression of peaceful weather as opposed to the similar disturbances expected during the monsoon season.
There may be isolated rainfall in certain areas of Karnataka and in Bengaluru, the temperatures may fluctuate from 20°C to 23°C. The humidity is expected to rise above 70%. The winds may be moderate and it may even rain, making the evenings cooler.
Light showers in Western Uttar Pradesh, mercury oscillates between 14° to 16° Celsius, humidity hovers near 65%. The visibility is decent and however, occasional rain might make the early journeys somewhat troublesome.
There are scattered showers in the areas around Jaipur and the maximum temperature is holding around 16°C, with a further drop in temperature as the sun goes down. In some parts, the winds speed past 25 km/h and the thick clouds ensure the sun stays hidden.
Winter hits very heavily at Srinagar with heavy snowfall leaving thick deposits and temperature within a range from -6°C up to -1°C. A combination of high humidity and reduced visibility is causing disruptions in road travel, especially at higher elevations.
Amritsar city, as well as the surrounding areas, are facing heavy rainfall with strong winds reaching approximately 35 km/h and the day temperature remains around 11 degrees Celsius, while the relative humidity remains above 75%.
