David desired God above all

King David encountered evil and injustice all around him; his heart was broken. But he refused to feel powerless. He was not going to give in to hopelessness and view the situation as irredeemable. Earnestly he prayed, saying, “Whom have I in heaven but you? And earth has nothing I desire besides you. My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever (Psalm 73:25-26).”
David had an intimate relationship with God; he was steadfast in serving Him all the days of his life. Out of love, David surrendered his understanding to God and longed to know His perfection, work, and will. Nothing could surpass the beauty of knowing God and His ways.
David knew that the welfare of people rested in following the truthful ways of God; rather than the wayward route of the world. He was able to trust God for in Him was no deceit. To will the glory of God in all things and work for common good was the chief end of his life. No matter what happened, he accepted it joyfully and gave thanks in all circumstances.
David gave all his affections to God; his love, joy, and fear. Surely, David loved what God loved. Many years later, Jesus asked His followers to pray for God’s kingdom to come “on earth as it is in heaven” (Matt. 6:10); a kingdom characterized by righteousness and goodness.
Like David, we too ought to hand over our lives to God. This includes our body for it is “the temple of God and the Spirit of God lives in us”(1 Cor. 3:16). We should glorify God with our body and be ready to do all manner of service for which God calls us. Let us remain ready to share our material goods with the poor and needy. Above all else, let us desire God and work for the common good.
