It is abundantly clear that the peace negotiations between Iran and the United States in Islamabad were not going to achieve any major breakthrough, unless Israel is reined in, and asked to behave. The entire turmoil has been precipitated by Benjamin Netanyahu’s diabolical plans which for obvious reasons were backed by Donald Trump. By attacking Iran while negotiations were still going on, and killing its top leaders, Washington has become a party to a crime which Tel Aviv initiated. Without any doubt, it was the biggest strategical mistake which the United States committed, and now after spending trillions of dollars and killing innocent people, is finding it difficult to sustain the conflict.
Significantly, the Islamabad negotiations are aimed at giving America an escape route after Trump’s domestic ratings have been plunging, and the war has created a huge economic crisis throughout the world. America, which held the winning cards, now finds itself in a situation where many of its NATO allies have taken contrary positions, and its associates in West Asia are unhappy with its presence, which has become a burden for their own existence.
The powerful Zionist lobby, which instigated the war, now finds itself in a peculiar spot where its most trusted friend, the United States, could distance itself from the developments, in order to find a respectable settlement to save its own position. Both China and Russia have gained tremendously and are appearing to be on the side of Iran, which is, and actually is, the victim in the present scenario, even though the Western media is reluctant to admit the truth.
A battered Iran holds the winning cards in a conflict where everyone is a loser. The emerging scenario has endangered the very existence of Israel, which is universally viewed as an aggressor and perpetrator of mass killings and destruction without any reason. Tel Aviv’s efforts to sabotage the Islamabad dialogue are evident, and its bombing of Lebanon, even after the ceasefire was declared, shows its real intent. The real problem is that its Army has been exhausted by these unjustified massacres, and thus Netanyahu and his friends are in real terms battling the odds with their back to the wall.
Trump, who considers himself to be an expert on each and everything, has also learnt the most difficult lessons of his life. His lack of command over his own utterances, have universally shamed the office of the US President, and his expletive ridden threats, bring out his frustration and anger at not being able to get his own conditions fulfilled.
There are people in the United States who are describing their President as “unhinged and delusional” and are of the opinion that he could face impeachment for his actions unless he does course correction and puts America first instead of Israel. There are elements within his own administration who are opposed to the crazy plans of some of his advisers, and find that from a position of being the greatest superpower on earth, the country’s stature stands diminished.
Iran, despite being battered and crippled has held on to its position, and is now dictating terms. The Strait of Hormuz is its greatest weapon which would help it get past the crisis and its people are determined that all the might of Trump, cannot succeed in wiping out the civilization, which has deep roots and has considerable influence in the region.
In fact, Tehran’s resilience is noteworthy, and has compelled both America and Israel to see the truth. The message is that people who at the end of World War II were given a land, snatched away from the locals, to establish a new country, cannot any longer dominate the area even if big brother United States, stands with them. In fact, America has mud all over the face and is now desperately looking for an escape route.
The ongoing negotiations regardless of their outcome have highlighted that the world order and alignments were undergoing a change. Pakistan, much to India’s disappointment, is on the high table and has managed to host the dialogue. The message is that Islamabad enjoys a certain goodwill amongst top countries including America, China and Iran which has enabled it to get the talks going. The Indian media seems to be painting an incomplete picture where anchors are going out of the way to show how Islamabad has faltered in arranging the dialogue.
In the Global South, Iran seems to have taken India’s place alongside Russia and China, and in the emerging scenario, Pakistan, Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Egypt could constitute an influential bloc of nations in the region. The US finds itself weakened, and it is obvious that it does not enjoy the support of its NATO allies, many of whom have not only distanced themselves from the war, but have refused permission to US armed forces to use their soil for refuelling.
Indeed, the world order is changing and the United Nations is becoming increasingly irrelevant.
Trump has created a situation which was unimaginable at one stage but it is perhaps the beginning of the end of US domination of the world. Russia and China have gained.
Between us.
