Christianity: Walking by faith in uncertain times

“For we walk by faith, not by sight.”2 Corinthians 5:7. This brief sentence from St Paul speaks with unusual force to our anxious age. We live in a time when people trust only what they can measure, display, count, and control. Public life is noisy, truth is contested, and fear travels faster than wisdom. In such a climate, Paul reminds us that the Christian life cannot be governed only by appearances. We walk by faith, not by sight. This does not mean Christians reject reason or reality. It means we refuse to believe that visible events tell the whole story. The cross itself looked like defeat. Yet in the purpose of God it became the place of redemption. The tomb looked final. Yet Christ rose from the dead. What seemed lost was not lost. What seemed finished was not finished.

That remains true in our own lives. There are days when families carry burdens silently, when young people face confusion, when the sick wait for healing, when the poor struggle for dignity, and when communities feel threatened by violence, hatred, or indifference. Sight sees only the wound. Faith looks deeper and says that God has not abandoned his world. To walk by faith is not to live in fantasy. It is to trust God enough to take the next obedient step. It is to tell the truth when lies are profitable. It is to pray when answers are delayed. It is to remain honest when corruption is normalised. It is to keep hope alive when public life is darkened by cynicism.

India today needs men and women who can walk by faith in this serious and disciplined sense. Not loud religion, but steady trust. Not empty slogans, but moral courage. Not despair, but hope rooted in God.

The Christian does not see everything clearly. But he knows whom he follows. And because Christ is risen and reigns, faith is never wasted. The road may be hard, but it is not without direction.
