Team India’s star opener Abhishek Sharma gifted Bollywood superstar Abhishek Sharma the bat, with which he went hammer and tongs in the T20 World Cup 2026 final against New Zealand at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The incident occurred during the India Today Conclave in Delhi on March 14, Saturday as Abhishek, along with Sanju Samson made an appearance, days after the final.

The left-handed batter had been considerably under the scanner before the final against the Kiwis as he struggled to live up to the expectations, scoring only one half-century. Nevertheless, Abhishek methodically dismantled New Zealand’s bowling unit in the final, smashing an 18-ball 50. It became the precursor to the Men in Blue clobbering 255/5 in the tournament-decider and romping to a 96-run victory. As a result, the Asian Giants clinched a record-breaking third T20 World Cup title and became the only side to win the title at home and successfully defending it.
With journalist Rajdeep Sardesai asking whether he can take home the bat with Abhishek Sharma’s autograph on it, the Punjab-born cricketer said:
“I think I’ll give him my bat only, the one I played with in the World Cup.”

Abhishek Sharma to represent the SunRisers Hyderabad in IPL 2026
Meanwhile, the southpaw will soon link up with SunRisers Hyderabad’s squad ahead of IPL 2026, beginning on March 28, Saturday. The Orange Army will be in action on the opening day as they will face reigning champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the Chinnaswamy Stadium.
Abhishek couldn’t make as solid an impact in IPL 2025 as he did in 2024 but still finished with 439 in 13 innings at 33.76 alongside a strike rate of 193.96. The SunRisers had failed to reach the playoffs in IPL 2025.
