AFG vs WI: History Made in T20I Cricket! Two Players Take Hat-Trick in Same Series

Two hat-tricks in two matches: West Indies pacer Shamar Springer matches Afghanistan spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman's feat during the just-concluded T20I series in Dubai.

A rare feat happened for the first time in cricket history, two players took hat-tricks in the same  men’s T20I series between full-member nations. The rare record was created during the West Indies vs Afghanistan series on Thursday.West Indies fast bowler Shamar Springer backed his first-ever T20I hat-trick in the third match at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. In the previous match of the series, Afghanistan spinner Mujeeb ur Rahman had already taken a hat-trick.

 Earlier in the series, Mujeeb ur Rahman took his hat-trick across two overs in the second T20I. He dismissed Evin Lewis and Johnson Charles on consecutive balls and then got Brandon King out on the first ball of his next over.

Before this series, the only time two players took hat-tricks in the same T20I series was when Sheraz Sheikh and Waseem Abbas did so for Malta and Belgium, which are not full-member nations.  ICC tournaments have also seen multiple hat-tricks, with Pat Cummins taking hat-tricks against Afghanistan and Bangladesh in back-to-back matches during the 2024 T20 World Cup being the most recent example

.West Indies had already lost the series 2–0 but managed a win in the third T20I. Batting first, they scored 151/7. While chasing, Afghanistan were 127/4 when Springer came on to bowl the 19th over. He dismissed Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Rashid Khan, and Shahidullah Kamal on three consecutive balls, reducing Afghanistan to 127/7. Springer finished with excellent figures of 4 wickets for 20 runs, helping West Indies win the match by 15 runs.With this performance, Springer became only the third West Indies player to take a T20I hat-trick, after Jason Holder and Romario Shepherd.After the match, Springer said he felt very special to achieve this milestone. He explained that he stayed patient, focused on good execution, and tried to make the batters hit towards the bigger side of the ground.

Mujeeb Ur Rahman becomes the third Afghanistan player to take a T20I hat-trick, joining Rashid Khan and Karim Janat! While Springer, became the third West Indies player to take a hat trick in T20 international. The other two are Jason Holder and Romario Shepherd.
