The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) is all set to celebrate a landmark moment in its cricketing history by hosting Sri Lanka in a multi-format series at home. Sri Lanka and Afghanistan will face each other after the conclusion of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2026 tournament.
On February 23, the Afghanistan Cricket Board, via an official press release, announced that Afghanistan will take on Sri Lanka in a Three-match T20I series, followed by a Three-match ODI series. While the T20Is are scheduled from March 13 to March 17, on the other hand, the ODI action will move to Dubai with matches on March 20, 22, and 25 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. The three T20Is are in Sharjah on March 13, 15, and 17.
As confirmed by the Afghanistan Cricket Board, this will be the first time Sri Lanka will play a bilateral series hosted in Afghanistan.
Meanwhile, ACB CEO Naseeb Khan expressed his excitement about hosting Sri Lanka for the first time in a bilateral series.
"We are delighted to host Sri Lanka for the first time in our history. This event reflects the strength of our collaboration with the Sri Lanka Cricket Board, and we are committed to further strengthening our relationship to provide a high-quality cricket experience in the future. Sri Lanka has been playing excellent cricket recently, and we look forward to what promises to be a competitive white-ball series between two quality sides", Naseeb Khan, CEO of the Afghanistan Cricket Board said.
"Additionally, the series is fundamental to our mission as we begin to further build our team and enhance key areas that need improvement. Our primary goal is to prepare the team for the major ICC and ACC events and the numerous bilateral commitments scheduled over the next two years", he continued.
"Bilateral cricket is an important element in international cricket, and we are extremely happy to be a part of this historic tour, as this is the first time Sri Lanka is engaging in a bilateral series hosted by Afghanistan. I am confident this tour will help us plan and prepare for our future international assignments", Ashley De Silva, CEO, Sri Lanka Cricket, stated.
