Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is already one of India’s most exciting young batting talents, thanks to his fearless strokeplay in white-ball cricket, but the teenage sensation is now looking to add another dimension to his game. The 15-year-old, who has just returned from India’s tour of Zimbabwe, is now focusing on red-ball cricket and is training at the Rajasthan Royals High Performance Center in Talegaon, close to Nagpur, ahead of the upcoming domestic season. Sooryavanshi is working closely with former India batting coach and Rajasthan Royals assistant coach Vikram Rathour to fine-tune the technical and mental aspects needed for success in the longer format. His preparations come ahead of the Duleep Trophy, where he will represent East Zone as vice-captain, marking another significant milestone in his rapidly progressing career.Â
Sooryavanshi Looking Beyond White-Ball Success
Although Sooryavanshi grabbed headlines by topping the batting charts during the last IPL season, the youngster has never agreed with the perception that he is solely a white-ball specialist. He has repeatedly maintained that he is equally comfortable in red-ball cricket and is determined to establish himself across all formats. The ongoing 10-day Rajasthan Royals camp reflects that ambition, with sessions specifically designed to sharpen technique, improve temperament and prepare players for the unique challenges of multi-day cricket. Alongside Sooryavanshi, teammates including Tushar Deshpande, Sandeep Sharma, Shubham Dubey, Ravi Singh and Sushant Mishra are also taking part in the camp. Deshpande will represent West Zone in the Duleep Trophy, while Sooryavanshi is set to play a key leadership role for East Zone.
Rajasthan Royals Build Players for the Long Haul
According to Rajasthan Royals, the High Performance Centre has been developed as a year-round facility focused on holistic player development rather than just IPL preparation. The camp combines technical skill development, strength and conditioning, workload management, recovery and performance analysis through individually tailored programmes. The academy also features multiple soil-specific practice wickets that replicate domestic playing conditions, allowing players to prepare for different surfaces across India. Speaking about the initiative, assistant coach Vikram Rathour said the pre-season period offers players the best opportunity to refine their skills and prepare for the demands of domestic cricket through personalised training plans. Head of Operations Romi Bhinder added that the franchise’s vision extends beyond the IPL, with the primary objective of creating a world-class environment where players can continue developing throughout the year and become complete cricketers across formats.
