The Riyadh Derby is known for its thrilling moments, but last night at Alawwal Park, it saw the chaos touching another level. Following a heart-stopping 1-1 draw on Tuesday, May 12, that saw Al Nassr’s certain title-clinching victory snatched away in the final seconds, reports and social media footage have emerged of heated physical altercations between rival supporters in the stands.
The atmosphere was already at a boiling point before the match began, with the Saudi Pro League title essentially on the line. For 89 minutes, it looked like Cristiano Ronaldo and his Warriors in Yellow had secured the championship. However, the late-game drama, which culminated in a 90+9’ own goal by Al Nassr goalkeeper Bento, left home fans devastated and visiting Al Hilal supporters in a state of wild celebration.

Al Nassr vs Al Hilal Fans Fight
When the equalizer struck in the ninth minute of stoppage time, the emotional whiplash was too much for many. Verbal taunts between the sections quickly escalated into physical shoving matches. On social media, fans claimed Al Hilal fans attacked the VIP section of Al Nassr throwing sticks turning the rivalry into street fight.
However, later, the official account of the Saudi General Security confirmed that the fans who instigated the fight were arrested. They posted on X, “Riyadh Region Police, in coordination with the (Ministry of Sports), apprehend a number of individuals for a brawl between them at a sports event and refer them to the Public Prosecution.”

One of the fans commented, “The people in the VIP section who spread misleading and false news are the ones who provoked the fans in general; all of them have been arrested.”
On the pitch, the draw means the title race remains technically alive, though Al Nassr still holds the advantage.
Al Nassr are currently top with 83 points after 33 games while Al Hilal sit in second with 78 points, but with a crucial game in hand.
As the dust settles on one of the most ill-tempered Riyadh Derbies in recent memory, the focus now shifts to the final two Matchdays.
