Anjum Chopra has added another honour to her growing list of achievements after being presented with the NewsX Shakti Award. The former India captain was the first recipient of the day at the ‘We Women Want Conclave & Shakti Awards 2026’, organised by The Sunday Guardian Foundation.

Anjum Chopra has once again found her name among the day’s biggest achievers after being presented with the NewsX Shakti Award at the 2026 edition of the ‘We Women Want Conclave & Shakti Awards’. Hosted by The Sunday Guardian Foundation, the event recognised Chopra as the first award recipient of the ceremony.
The Shakti Awards honour women who are making an impact across professions by challenging norms, breaking barriers and inspiring meaningful change. The initiative celebrates their determination, leadership and accomplishments while recognising those helping create a more inclusive and empowered path for future generations.
Anjum Chopra’s Enduring Legacy and Impact on Indian Cricket
Anjum Chopra added another major milestone to her remarkable cricketing journey after being inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame on July 11, 2026, during a ceremony in Edinburgh. The former India women’s captain became only the third Indian woman to receive the prestigious honour, following Diana Edulji and Neetu David.
Chopra broke several barriers during her 17-year international career, becoming the first Indian woman to score 1,000 ODI runs and the first from the country to feature in 100 ODIs. She also captained India to a historic overseas Test win against South Africa in 2002 and played an important role in the team’s run to the 2005 Women’s World Cup final.
Across 12 Tests, 127 ODIs and 18 T20Is, Chopra accumulated 3,645 international runs before ending her playing career. She was part of the 2026 ICC Hall of Fame class alongside former India captain Sourav Ganguly and England great Kevin Pietersen.
