Arsenal FC could be preparing another move to strengthen their academy ranks, with two Manchester United youngsters reportedly attracting attention in north London. James Scanlon and Habeeb Ogunneye are understood to be on the Gunners’ radar as Mikel Arteta focuses on the future. Neither player has made a Premier League appearance for Man United, but both have gained valuable experience at youth and senior levels.
With Arsenal already on the course to sign promising teenagers this summer, another double swoop could soon add to their roster.
Arsenal Transfer Plans For Another Youth Recruitment Push
Arsenal’s interest in James Scanlon and Habeeb Ogunneye fits into a wider strategy of identifying high-potential players before they establish themselves at senior level. The Gunners have already been active in the youth market this summer, with moves for Cardiff City teenager Axel Donczew and Liverpool youngster Vincent Joseph reportedly close.
The reigning Premier League champions have also completed the signing of 18-year-old defender Elijah Upson from Tottenham Hotspur. The teenager is the son of former Arsenal and England defender Matthew Upson.
A move for two Manchester United academy players would represent another calculated investment rather than headline senior recruitment.
Manchester United FC previously convinced two of Arsenal’s highly-rated young players, Ayden Heaven and Chido Obi, to leave the Emirates for Old Trafford. Arsenal could now have an opportunity to turn the tables.
Why Are Arsenal Eyeing James Scanlon And Habeeb Ogunneye?
James Scanlon is a 19-year-old attacking midfielder who can also operate on the left wing. Born in September 2006, he joined United’s academy from Derby County in 2023 and has performed brilliantly for the club’s Under-18 and Under-21 teams. The teenager represents Gibraltar internationally and scored on his senior debut.
Habeeb Ogunneye, on the other hand, is a 20-year-old right-back who joined United’s academy in 2022. He gained senior experience during a loan spell with Newport County in the first half of the 2025-26 season, making 21 appearances before being recalled in January.
Ogunneye has also been included in several Man United first-team matchday squads, including the FA Cup semi-final win over Coventry City in 2024. Neither player has played in the Premier League for United, and no fee or agreement has been confirmed as of now.
