The International Cricket Council (ICC) has taken strict action against India’s star pacer Arshdeep Singh, two days after India’s big T20 World Cup 2026 win. The Suryakumar Yadav-led Team India won the prestigious trophy of the TC World Cup 2026 by defeating the New Zealand cricket team in the final clash at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
Arshdeep Singh Receives Fine and Demerit Points for T20 WC Final Incident
While Arshdeep Singh has been enjoying one of the greatest phases of his career right now, the star bowler has been found guilty of breaching the ICC Code of Conduct during the T20 World Cup 2026 final match between IND vs NZ. As a result, the bowler has been fined 15 per cent of his match fee.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) released an official statement on Tuesday, saying that Arshdeep violated Article 2.9 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel. This article relates to “throwing a ball (or any other item of cricket equipment) at or near a player in an inappropriate and/or dangerous manner during an International Match.”
Along with the fine, one demerit point has been added to Arshdeep’s record. This was his first offence in 24 months. Arshdeep accepted the sanction proposed by Andy Pycroft of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees, so there was no need for a formal hearing.
What Happened on the Field Between Arshdeep Singh and Daryl Mitchell?
The incident took place in the 11th over of New Zealand’s innings. Arshdeep fielded the ball on his follow-through and threw it aggressively, hitting batter Daryl Mitchell’s pads.
The on-field umpires, Richard Illingworth and Alex Wharf, along with third umpire Allahuddien Paleker and fourth umpire Adrian Holdstock, formally levelled the charge.
Level 1 breaches like this carry a minimum penalty of a warning, a maximum of 50 per cent of the match fee, and one or two demerit points.
