India’s double gold medallist Neeru Dhanda has been chosen as the country’s women’s flag bearer for the Asian Games 2026 closing ceremony in Aichi-Nagoya. The ceremony is scheduled to take place at Mizuho Park Athletic Stadium on Sunday. Dhanda earned the honour after an impressive campaign at the continental event, where she claimed two gold medals along with a silver to establish herself among India’s standout performers at the Games.

The 27-year-old trap shooter had only just returned to her hometown of Sangatpura village in Jind when she received the news that she would have to make another trip to Japan. Former Indian shooter and India’s deputy chef de mission for Aichi-Nagoya, Anjali Bhagwat, personally informed Dhanda about her selection as the women’s flag bearer. After a memorable medal-winning campaign, Dhanda will now have the added honour of leading the Indian contingent into the closing ceremony with the national flag.

What to Expect at the Asian Games 2026 Closing Ceremony

The Indian contingent will have a strong presence at the closing ceremony, with athletes, coaches and officials who have completed their events expected to take part in the celebrations. Neeru Dhanda, who won two gold medals and a silver in shooting, will lead the Indian contingent as the women’s flag bearer. Senior officials, including Deputy Chef de Mission Anjali Bhagwat, are also expected to be part of the official proceedings.

The ceremony will bring the two-week sporting spectacle to a close with a relaxed Parade of Athletes. Unlike the opening ceremony, where delegations enter in a designated order, athletes traditionally come together in a more informal procession, reflecting the spirit of unity and friendship across Asian nations.

The programme will also feature the formal closing rituals, including the extinguishing of the Asian Games flame and the lowering of the Olympic Council of Asia flag. The host responsibilities will then be handed over to Doha, Qatar, which will stage the 2030 Asian Games.
