Indian kurash athlete Yash Kumar Chauhan has been provisionally suspended after an in-competition sample collected on September 27 at the Asian Games returned an Adverse Analytical Finding for multiple prohibited substances. The Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) announced the suspension on Saturday, stating that it will remain in place while the case goes through the relevant process.
The substances identified in the sample include metabolites of Metandienone and GW1516, along with Mephentermine, all of which are prohibited under the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) Code. The sample was collected and analysed by the International Testing Agency (ITA) on behalf of the OCA. With the provisional suspension in effect, Chauhan is barred from competing, training or taking part in activities at the Asian Games until the matter is resolved.
Yash Kumar Chauhan Provisionally Suspended After Adverse Analytical Finding at Asian Games 2026
Indian kurash player Yash Kumar Chauhan has been provisionally suspended after an in-competition sample collected on September 27 during the Asian Games returned an Adverse Analytical Finding. The 24-year-old had already exited the competition after losing 0-10 to Tajikistan’s Shakarmamad Mirmamadov in the pre-quarterfinals of the men’s 90kg category. The Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) announced the development on Saturday, October 3, six days after the sample was collected.
The sample was analysed by the International Testing Agency (ITA), which is responsible for testing and results management at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games on behalf of the OCA. According to the OCA, the sample contained metabolites of Metandienone and GW1516, along with Mephentermine and its metabolite. The governing body said the findings involved “non-specified prohibited substances” under the World Anti-Doping Code. The OCA added that Chauhan has been “provisionally suspended with immediate effect until the resolution of the matter.”
The substances identified in the sample are prohibited under anti-doping regulations, although their classifications and periods of prohibition differ. Metandienone is an anabolic steroid prohibited both in and out of competition, while GW1516 is also banned at all times. Mephentermine is classified as a stimulant and is prohibited during competition. The OCA described Metandienone as a substance associated with increased “muscle-mass growth, endurance and strength,” while GW1516 is linked to pathways involved in fat metabolism and endurance performance.
What Happens Next For Yash Kumar Chauhan? CAS Appeal And B-Sample Testing Explained
The provisional suspension means Chauhan cannot compete, train, coach or participate in activities during the Asian Games while the case remains unresolved. However, the suspension is not a final determination of an anti-doping rule violation. Chauhan has the right to challenge the provisional measure before the Anti-Doping Division of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) and can also request an analysis of his B-sample, which is the second portion of the original sample.
The kurash competition at the Asian Games was held from September 26 to 29, with Chauhan’s campaign ending on September 27. His defeat to Mirmamadov came in the round of 16, while India’s only medal in kurash was won by Pincky Balhara, who secured bronze in the women’s 78kg category. The outcome of Chauhan’s case will now depend on the applicable procedures under the World Anti-Doping Code and the OCA Anti-Doping Rules.
