Asian Games 2026 Hockey Result LIVE: India strengthened their Asian Games 2026 campaign with another golden chapter as the men’s hockey team defeated Malaysia 5-1 in the final at Gifu Prefectural Green Stadium on Saturday. Harmanpreet Singh’s side recovered from Malaysia’s brief fightback to produce a commanding second-half display, successfully defending their title.
The Asian Games victory also secured India men’s hockey team a direct qualification berth for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics and helped the contingent strengthen its position in the final medal-table race.
India vs Malaysia Hockey Final Highlights
India began aggressively and captain Harmanpreet Singh broke the deadlock with a penalty-corner conversion in the opening quarter. Malaysia responded quickly with an equaliser, sending the final into a tense phase as India struggled to create clear openings against a compact defence.
The breakthrough came in the second quarter when Jugraj Singh’s penalty-corner drag-flick found the net, restoring India’s advantage. The defending champions then turned up the pressure after the interval. Hardik Singh converted a penalty stroke to make it 3-1, before Shilanand Lakra produced India’s first field goal of the final to stretch the lead to three.
Harmanpreet then returned to the scoresheet with another penalty-corner conversion late in the fourth quarter, completing a 5-1 triumph. The result gave India their fifth men’s hockey gold at the Asian Games and marked the first occasion on which the Indian men successfully defended their Asiad hockey crown.
India’s men and women also both finished as hockey champions at the same edition for the first time.

India now have 85 medals, comprising 21 gold, 27 silver and 37 bronze in Asian Games 2026, placing fourth in the overall standings. India’s 21st gold came through the men’s hockey final, while Uzbekistan also finished on 21 golds but had fewer silver medals.
Saturday brought a rich haul for India. The men’s cricket team defeated Pakistan by 19 runs to retain the Asian Games gold, while Kumkum Mohod won historic individual recurve gold and Pranavi Urs claimed women’s individual golf gold.
India also collected silver through the women’s golf team and Antim Panghal, while Neeraj Chauhan and Deepak Punia secured bronze medals. Wrestler Aman Sehrawat added another Asian Games gold in the men’s 57kg category.
