India women’s hockey team chief coach Sjoerd Marijne expressed confidence in the 20-member squad selected for the 2026 Asian Games, highlighting the blend of youth and experience within the group. He believes the players have shown consistent progress in recent months and are well prepared for the competition in Aichi-Nagoya.
“We have a group in which we have a nice balance between juniors, experienced players and seniors who are constantly working to get the best out of each other,” said the team’s Chief Coach, Sjoerd Marijne, sharing his thoughts on the selected 20-member squad. “This group of players has shown that they have the right form and fitness in recent months. We are confident that this team is ready for the challenge at the Asian Games,” he added.
The India women’s hockey team has won seven medals in Asian Games history, including one gold, two silver and four bronze. Their only gold medal came at the 1982 New Delhi Asian Games, which also marked the first edition to feature women’s hockey at the continental event.
