Asian Games 2026 Shooting: India Wins 15 Medals, Neeru Dhanda Leads Historic Campaign
India wrapped up its Asian Games 2026 shooting campaign with 15 medals, comprising three gold, eight silver and four bronze, across rifle, pistol and shotgun events. The 30-member contingent competed at the Aichi Prefectural General Shooting Gallery between September 20 and October 1. However, the tally fell short of India’s record performance at Hangzhou 2023, where shooters won 22 medals, including seven gold.
Neeru Dhanda was the standout performer for India, finishing the Games with two gold medals and a silver. After helping Manisha Keer and Aashima Ahlawat secure silver in the women’s trap team event, Neeru went on to win the individual title with 28 hits from 30 targets, setting an Asian record. Her victory also made her the first Indian woman to win an Asian Games gold in a shotgun event. She followed it up by teaming with Kynan Chenai to claim mixed team trap gold less than a day later, again setting an Asian record and becoming the first Indian shotgun shooter to win two titles at a single edition.
India’s other shooting gold came from Suruchi Singh and Kamaljeet, who topped the 10m air pistol mixed team event with an Asian-record score of 484.6 in the final. Elavenil Valarivan also made a strong contribution with two silver medals in the women’s 10m air rifle, while Rudrankksh Patil finished the Games with three medals, including an individual bronze and team silver in the 10m air rifle, followed by another silver in the men’s 50m rifle 3 positions team event. Esha Singh narrowly missed out on gold in the women’s 25m pistol after losing a tense shoot-off to China’s Xiao Jiaruixuan, earning her second consecutive Asian Games silver in the event.
The campaign also included a few setbacks, most notably for Manu Bhaker, who went home without a medal despite entering the Games as one of India’s biggest shooting hopes. She finished fifth in the women’s 10m air pistol final and failed to reach the 25m pistol final, while India finished fourth and fifth in the respective team events. The country’s remaining four bronze medals came from skeet, with both the men’s and women’s teams making the podium before Anantjeet Singh Naruka and Parinaaz Dhaliwal added another bronze in the mixed team event. Rudrankksh’s individual 10m air rifle bronze completed India’s shooting medal tally.
