Aman Sehrawat is a comeback man. He showed it in the semifinal, and when the biggest test arrived in the Asian Games 2026 men’s freestyle 57kg final, he did it again. The Indian wrestler fought back from a 6-7 deficit against DPR Korea’s reigning World Champion Han Chong Song to win 11-7 and claim the gold medal at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games on Saturday.
For Aman, this gold adds another major chapter to a career that already includes a bronze medal from the Paris 2024 Olympics and a bronze from the previous Asian Games in Hangzhou. The victory also made him the first Indian wrestler to win Asian Games gold in the men’s 57kg weight class.

Aman Sehrawat’s Asian Games 2026 Wrestling Campaign
The 23-year-old did not have an easy route to the final. He began his Aichi-Nagoya campaign against Japan’s Yamato Ogawa, recovering after an aggressive start from his opponent before taking control and winning 20-9 by technical superiority. He followed that with a 12-1 quarterfinal victory over Kazakhstan’s Nurdanat Aitanov.
The semifinal against Tajikistan’s Aiaal Belolyubskii brought the first major comeback of the day. Aman trailed 2-6 after the opening period, but instead of allowing the deficit to dictate the contest, he turned the bout around with 12 points in the second period. He conceded only two more points and completed a 14-8 victory to reach the final.

Then came Han Chong Song, the reigning World Champion. Aman again found himself behind, but the Indian refused to let the score decide the story. From 6-7 down, he produced the decisive late push, turning the final in his favour to win 11-7 and become an Asian Games champion.
From Chhatrasal To Asian Games Champion
There is a deeper story behind the medal. Aman lost both his parents when he was 11 and found a home in wrestling at Delhi’s Chhatrasal Stadium, where he trained and developed into one of India’s leading wrestlers. His journey from those early years to an Olympic medal in Paris and now an Asian Games title has been shaped by the same willingness to keep moving forward when the situation turns difficult.
After winning bronze at the Paris Olympics in 2024, Aman became India’s youngest individual Olympic medallist at the age of 21.
