AUS vs BAN, 1st Test: Hasan Mahmud has become the first Bangladeshi bowler to claim a Test five-wicket haul in India, Pakistan and Australia, achieving the feat during Bangladesh’s ongoing first Test against Australia in Darwin. His stunning 6 for 55 dismantled the Australian batting line-up and gave Bangladesh a dream start in their first Test in Australia in 23 years.
Hasan Mahmud Completes Historic Five-Wicket Treble
Mahmud had already produced five-wicket hauls in Pakistan and India in 2024, and his six-wicket burst against Australia has now completed the unique overseas set.
His first five-for came in the second Test against Pakistan at Rawalpindi in August 2024. Mahmud returned figures of 5 for 43 in Pakistan’s second innings, removing Abdullah Shafique, Khurram Shahzad, Mohammad Rizwan, Mohammad Ali and Mir Hamza. Bangladesh went on to win the Test by six wickets and complete a historic 2-0 series victory.
Just weeks later, Mahmud delivered another memorable performance in Chennai against India. He claimed 5 for 83 in India’s first innings, dismissing Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant and Jasprit Bumrah. Despite Bangladesh eventually losing the Test, Mahmud became the first Bangladesh bowler to take a Test five-wicket haul in India.

Mahmud’s Career-Best Spell Destroys Australia
Now, in Darwin, Mahmud has added Australia to that list.
After Australia opted to bat first, Bangladesh’s fast bowlers made excellent use of the movement on offer. Mahmud struck repeatedly, dismissing Jake Weatherald, Travis Head, Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Steven Smith and Nathan Lyon.
Steven Smith offered Australia’s biggest resistance with 71 off 109 balls, but wickets kept falling around him. Alex Carey added 19, while Bangladesh’s other quicks, Taskin Ahmed and Ebadot Hossain, claimed two wickets apiece.
Mahmud completed his five-wicket haul by dismissing Smith before removing Lyon to finish with his career-best 6 for 55. Australia were eventually bowled out for 198, with Bangladesh’s fast bowlers taking all ten wickets.
From Pakistan To India And Now Australia
Mahmud’s three Test five-wicket hauls now read:
-
Pakistan: 5/43, Rawalpindi, 2024
-
India: 5/83, Chennai, 2024
-
Australia: 6/55, Darwin, 2026
The latest performance is also among the finest figures by a Bangladesh fast bowler in Test cricket.
More importantly, Mahmud has achieved a feat no Bangladeshi bowler had managed before him, taking Test five-wicket hauls in Pakistan, India and Australia.
From Rawalpindi to Chennai and now Darwin, the 26-year-old seamer has turned his overseas performances into a historic three-country achievement, while giving Bangladesh a sensational start in their first Test in Australia in more than two decades.
