Veteran Australian speedster Mitchell Starc was seen in the commentary box as Alyssa Healy’s swansong series began on February 24, Thursday during the first ODI against India at the Allan Border Field in Brisbane. Alyssa Healy had announced his international retirement ahead of the home series against India
Healy, one of the most influential women’s cricketers, had announced that the ODI series and the one-off Test will be her final appearance in the international arena. Furthermore, the Queenslander had also played a critical role in Australian team’s 50-over World Cup wins in 2013 and 2022. Alyssa Healy-led Australia restrict India to 214 in Brisbane
It was Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur, who had elected to bat first after winning the toss. Nevertheless, the visitors couldn’t deliver a collective batting performance, with only Harmanpreet (53) and Smriti Mandhana (58) scoring fifties. Kashvee Gautam’s 44-ball 43 proved to be vital but India still ended up with what could be a below-par score of 214 in 48.3 overs.
Australia made a good start as Healy and Phoebe Litchfield combined for a 55-run opening stand in 10.3 overs. However, Shree Charani’s twin strikes have pegged them back in pursuit of 215. The preceding T20I series saw India register a historic 2-1 win Down Under.
