Former Australian opener Justin Langer lambasted Jemimah Rodrigues on air for her poor shot on Day 2 of the one-off Test between India and Australia at the W.A.C.A in Perth. Langer stated that the youngster will rue that decision to play that shot when there was plenty of time to bat.
“Very, very disappointing end” – Justin Langer on Jemimah Rodrigues
Rodrigues, who was batting on 14, having hit three boundaries off the middle off her bat, shaped up for the lap shot early on. However, the extra bounce off the bowling of Annabel Sutherland caught the top edge and Beth Mooney took the catch comfortably behind the stumps. Langer, who was on air, said in a video shared by 7cricket on X:
“Dumb cricket, poor cricket. She will rue that decision. You’re playing Test cricket, you’ve got two and a bit days to bat. Very, very disappointing end to what’s been an excellent innings.”

Australia women completely in the driver’s seat after India’s another poor batting performance
To back up their first-innings total of 198, the Women in Blue collapsed to 105/6 in their second innings with 20 more runs in arrears. Openers Smriti Mandhana (2) and Shafali Varma (5) perished for single-figure scores, while Harmanpreet Kaur managed only 11 runs during her stay of 19 balls. Deepti Sharma (9) and keeper-batter Richa Ghosh were the other Indian batters to fare poorly. India have Pratika Rawal (43*) and Sneh Rana (14*) at the crease, with Kashvee Gautam, Sayali Satghare and Kranti Gaud to follow.
Before her figures of 6-2-15-2, Sutherland followed up with an outstanding 129 to give the home side a lead of 125. Ellyse Perry also made 76, while Alana King (21) and Lucy Hamilton (23) offered some resistance towards the end. India will need a massive partnership if they are to sweat Australia in the one-off Test.
