Australia’s campaign for a record-extending seventh ICC Women’s T20 World Cup crown has received a massive boost as captain Sophie Molineux was officially declared fit to resume all her duties. Cricket Australia confirmed on Wednesday, May 13, that the 28-year-old has successfully recovered from a persistent back injury that had limited her role during the recent series against the West Indies. Molineux, who took over as the team’s all-format skipper in January, was forced to play as a specialist batter during her first full tour as captain.
However, after a rigorous rehabilitation block, she is back to full fitness. “I’ve had a good little block of training, and I’m back bowling and feeling really good,” Molineux told reporters.
After a heartbreaking semi-final exit in 2024, the Australians are determined to reclaim their throne when the tournament begins in England and Wales on June 12.
“I’m really excited. I think this World Cup has been on our minds for a long time now, and it feels like it’s just around the corner, and we’ve all got together this week and starting to build some really good momentum,” Molineux added.

“Leading a World Cup for the first time, there’s going to be some nerves to it, but I think the overall emotion is just pure excitement.”
The squad sees the inclusion of 19-year-old rising star Lucy Hamilton, while fast bowler Darcie Brown is a notable omission.
Australia begin their Group A campaign against South Africa on June 13 in Manchester.
