Australia’s TV networks have decided not to broadcast the upcoming Pakistan vs Australia T20I series, just days before the T20 World Cup 2026. As a result, fans in Australia will not be able to watch the three-match series, which will be played in Lahore. This is a major setback for Cricket Australia, the Pakistan Cricket Board, and preparations for the World Cup.The series begins on January 29 at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, but no Australian broadcaster has bought the TV rights. According to industry sources, networks chose to stay away because the matches start late at night in Australia and are not expected to attract enough viewers or advertising revenue. All three games begin at 10:00 PM AEDT, a time slot that usually gets low ratings. Broadcasters also do not see value in delayed telecasts.

- Even South Africa hasn’t invited them for Test series in past 5–6 years.

Several factors led to this decision. The match timings are not suitable for Australian prime-time audiences. Many top Australian players will also miss the series as they are being rested ahead of the World Cup. Big names such as Glenn Maxwell, Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, and Tim David will not play, which reduces fan interest and hurts TV ratings. With the T20 World Cup approaching, attention has shifted away from bilateral series like this one. One senior TV executive reportedly called the series “commercially unviable,” even though Australia and Pakistan share a strong cricket rivalry.
On the field, the contest remains closely matched. Australia and Pakistan have played 28 T20Is against each other, with Australia winning 14, Pakistan winning 13, and one match ending with no result. Both teams have similar batting and bowling records, showing how competitive the rivalry is.Despite this, the series is likely to be ignored by a large section of the global audience. This is especially bad timing for Pakistan cricket. With the T20 World Cup starting on February 7, the series was supposed to help Pakistan prepare and stay in the spotlight.

Instead, the lack of broadcast coverage in Australia means the matches will go largely unnoticed in one of cricket’s biggest markets. It also means key storylines, such as Babar Azam’s return to international cricket after a tough Big Bash League season, may not get much attention.
