The Indian top men’s singles shuttler has been a giant killer throughout the tournament. Entering as an unseeded player, Sen stunned World No. 1 and defending champion Shi Yuqi in the opening round with a hard-fought 23-21, 19-21, 21-17 victory. This was the first win that Lakshya registered against the Chinese.
Sen then faced Hong Kong’s Ng Ka Long Angus in the next round and once again endured a tough battle, eventually prevailing in another three-game thriller, 21-19, 21-23, 21-10.
In the quarterfinals, the Indian star met World No. 6 Li Shifeng, the same opponent who ended his campaign at the All England Open in the quarterfinals last year.

However, Sen made sure history did not repeat itself this time. The 24-year-old avenged his 2025 defeat with a much easier straight-game victory, winning 21-13, 21-16 to book his place in the semifinals.
This marks Sen’s third semifinal appearance at the prestigious BWF Super 1000 tournament. His best result at the All England Open came in 2022, when he finished as runner-up after losing to Viktor Axelsen in the final.
Sen will now face Canada’s Victor Lai, with the two players set to meet for the first time. Lai is currently ranked World No. 16, four places behind Sen.
However, he is also enjoying a historic run of his own, becoming the first Canadian men’s singles player to reach the semifinals of the All England Open. He secured his place in the last four with a comeback victory over Japan’s Koki Watanabe in the quarterfinals, winning 18-21, 21-17, 21-15.
