BAN vs PAK, 1st Test: Did Nahid Rana lapse in the field prove too costly?
The incident occurred in the 14th over of the innings sent down by Taskin Ahmed as Pakistan opener Imam-ul-Haq flicked the ball to square leg. With Rana steaming in to prevent the double, he fumbled thrice while picking up the ball. However, the batters did not sprint for a second run but the Bangladeshi fielders kept screaming.

BAN vs PAK, 1st Test: What is the state of the match in Mirpur?
As far as the state of the opening Test in Mirpur goes, Pakistan are currently into the ascendancy as they finished Day 2 at 179/1 after playing 46 overs. Imam-ul-Haq remains the only Pakistani batter to fall as Mehidy Hasan Miraz dismissed the left-hander for 45, ending a brisk 106-run partnership. Azan Awais, one of the debutants, is nearing his ton as he is batting on 85, while Abdullah Fazal, another batter making his first Test appearance for Pakistan is unbeaten on 37. The Tigers finished Day 1 at 301/4, spearheaded by captain Najmul Hossain Shanto’s 101 and a composed 91 from Mominul Haque.
Mushfiqur Rahim also chipped in with 71 but Bangladesh lost their last six wickets only for another 112 runs. Mohmmad Abbas starred with a fifer, while Shaheen Shah Afridi took three. Hasan Ali and Noman Ali snared one apiece.
After squaring off in the ODI series in March, Pakistan and Bangladesh have resumed their rivalry in Test cricket as the first of the two red-ball games. Shan Masood-led side, who are currently 5th in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) standings, will look to go up the points table when the opening Test begins in Mirpur.
Pakistan’s only series in the 2025-27 cycle came against South Africa at home and they squandered the chance to make it 2-0 as they lost the second after winning the first. The Asian side is yet to even reach the World Test Championship final and will be looking to rectify that in this cycle. Notably, the tourists have suffered a body blow with premier batter Babar Azam getting ruled out of the first Test, owing to knee injury. As for Bangladesh, they will have happy memories of facing Pakistan, given the Tigers stunned their arch-rivals 2-0 in 2024. But Bangladesh are languishing at eighth spot in the points table, winning one and drawing the other.
