Brian Bennett, Zimbabwe’s rising cricket star, took what could’ve been a rough night and turned it into comedy gold at the MA Chidambaram Stadium press room in Chennai, Thursday night, February 26, 2026. He’d just hammered an unbeaten 97 off 59 balls against India’s top-tier bowling in the Super8 clash of the T20 World Cup 2026.

Then, out of nowhere, a journalist, who was clearly a bit lost, asked why the other batters didn’t let “him” (still talking about Bennett, but in the third person) get his hundred. Bennett didn’t miss a beat. He just said, “Pardon… I am Bennett.” The room exploded. People couldn’t stop laughing.

Suddenly, that one-liner became the moment everyone remembered from the T20 World Cup Super 8s, apart from the cricket itself. Even though Zimbabwe lost by 72 runs, Bennett’s mix of humility and sharp humour won over millions of fans across India.

Brian Bennett Cheeky Reply on Journalist’s Question

The post-match press conference began with high praise for Bennett’s innings, which included a stunning six off Jasprit Bumrah that silenced the Chepauk crowd.

However, the tone shifted when a local reporter, seemingly losing track of which player was sitting in front of him, asked: “Bennett had a good chance to score a century. A century in a World Cup is always special. Why did your batters not give him a chance to score a century?”

However, Bennett didn’t even flinch when the mix-up happened. He just leaned into the mic, smiled a little, and set the record straight about who he was. In the video circulating over social media, the whole room cracks up once the reporter catches on. People are loving how Bennett handled the awkward “third-person” moment.

Zimbabwe’s T20 World Cup 2026 Super 8 Exit With Heads Held High

Zimbabwe’s 72-run defeat against India marked the end of their magical journey in the 2026 T20 World Cup. However, the “Chevrons” walked away with their best-ever position at the tournament. With Sikandar Raza as their man in charge, Zimbabwe shocked the world by defeating Australia and Sri Lanka in the group stages, thus confirming their place among the elites.
