FIFA World Cup 2026: After Spain beat Argentina 1-0 and won the FIFA World Cup 2026 final in New Jersey on Sunday, United States President Donald Trump emerged as one of the hottest topics. After the Spanish players received the World Cup trophy, the US president stood with them and was part of the podium in the celebration.
The president only stepped back when he was physically separated by FIFA President Gianni Infantino, allowing Rodri, the captain, to lift the trophy with his teammates. Afterwards, Trump was seen standing on the side of the podium in a moment that has since gone viral on social media platforms.

FIFA World Cup 2026: Donald Trump booed at MetLife Stadium

Boos could be heard all around the stadium when Trump and Infantino walked on the pitch for the award presentation after the game. The US president, who had arrived at the stadium by helicopter, gave handshakes to the players as they walked across the stage and then stood together with Spain’s team during the trophy ceremony.
Trump stirred up controversy during the tournament by calling FIFA president Gianni Infantino to request that he overturn the red card that was given to US striker Folarin Balogun in their Round of 32 clash against Bosnia and Herzegovina. The suspension of Balogun for one match was later lifted, enabling him to play in the Round of 16 against Belgium, where the US squad lost 4-1.

Spain crowned FIFA World Cup 2026 champions with 1-0 win over Argentina

After edging past defending champions Argentina with a narrow 1-0 victory in extra time, Spain took the trophy and won the FIFA World Cup 2026. This was a great result which not only ended Lionel Messi’s title defence, but also completed an impressive spell during which the Spanish team only gave away a single goal in eight games. Fernando Torres came off the bench as the man who gave Spain the victory with a fierce shot in the 106th minute which went past the Argentine keeper, Emiliano Martinez, and into the top corner of the goal. That moment marked Spain’s win on the global stage, as their men’s football team has not claimed this prestigious trophy since 2010. It’s the second time they are celebrating a men’s FIFA World Cup championship after Spain lifted the trophy in 2010.
